Week of January 28th

What We’re Learning This Week: Week of January 28th

Reading: “Little Penguins Tale”  (Fiction)
Students will be working on asking and answering questions about key details, and then using the key details to describe characters, settings, and major events in a story. Students will be discussing and identifying who is telling the story. We’ll be continuing guided reading and Daily 5/centers.   Please keep in mind, depending on the guided reading schedule each day, your child may not bring home a NEW book to read every day. As always, we’ll be reading poetry weekly for fluency and expression practice.

Writing: We began our new non-fiction writing unit.  We reviewed non-fiction books and discussed how they teach us about topics.  The students then brainstormed and charted their own topics that they know a lot about. Students will work on writing facts/information about a topic after learning how to plan their writing. When planning their writing, students will learn how to write an introduction, 2-3 detailed chapters, and a conclusion. We will also be continuing to work on capitalization, end marks and writing detailed sentences through mini-lessons.
