What We’re Learning This Week:
Reading:
We will be reading two short passages called, “Tess the Turtle” and “Jack and
Anna.” Students will be working on asking
and answering key details in a story. They will identify characters, setting
and major events of the story in order. We’ll be continuing guided reading and daily
five/centers. As always, we’ll be
reading poetry weekly for fluency and expression practice.
*Please
continue to read your child’s book-in-a-bag nightly with them.
Writing: The first
graders will continue their informational writing unit. We will also be continuing to work on
capitalization, end marks and writing detailed sentences through
mini-lessons. During this unit, each
child will write information books about lots of different topics and revisit
his or her writing to self-assess and revise (they will name a topic, give
facts, and provide a sense of closure). At
the end of the quarter, the first grade teachers will administer a post
on-demand performance assessment with the students (I can write an
informational text independently).
